Dr Awkward: @Niels Bohr Oh rad, I love the western slope. My wife and I used to live on the front range and did our honeymoon our in that area (wineries!). She also lived in Crawford for a month, looking after some horses.
Niels Bohr: @Dr Awkward hellos from Fruita, CO. The west is the best, especially the high desert.
 Dr Awkward: @fanny Thanks!!
Dr Awkward: @Niels Bohr Northern AZ. The part of AZ that doesn't make you melt to death.

tib gubb: can lizard have mirth?
Skinr: @trelyate Technically, this is a mugger crocodile; I felt like it was better to err on the side of caution when it comes to gators and gator-like animals on this site.
 Mr Shifty: Snappy boi
 winwolf: 572.
Ted Hebert: Just hop over the fence and get the damn baseball, Kevin.
Warrax: @trelyate It kind of bums me out that he seems to have stopped coming around here after that. My admiration for his heroics is completely unironic.
trelyate: what's the gator count at these days? Can that dude post again?
 sparename: My pelican is broken

Amy Housewine: I'm fairly sure that this nice mousey didn't cause a plague.
Ted Hebert: @Jeffrat i'm still confused. Wasn't the whole logic behind the rodent-shaming the fact that only rodents were sneaking onto our ships and into our wagons? Seems like an easy way to explain the plague, whether or not it's airborne or whatever, being rapidly transmitted. And let's say you're right. Couldn't rodents still have been the delivery vessel for your idea of what happened?
Jeffrat: @Ted Hebert it's not that flimsy, most of the plague pit data is pretty questionable. The primary indictment has always been that despite no significant drop in endemic populations of Rattus spp. we have had precipitous drops in Y. pestis that can't be attributed to advances in hygiene. Now if we wanted to lay something on rats there's plenty of options, leptosporosis say, but not plague.
Ted Hebert: @Jeffrat i mostly focus on stage 3 syphilis, dictators, and potatos shaped like dicks: dicktaters; the low-hanging fruit, i know. But it pays the bills. We can't all be fancy lab coats with flimsy--but popular--opinions on how plague rodents are blameless. Someone has to mix your kale salad with toasted supergrain, right?
Jeffrat: @Ted Hebert with jokes about Hanta virus?
Ted Hebert: @Jeffrat I only know a little, but I'm pretty sure rodents can spread infections and do their share of air polluting. But you sound like you are wearing a lab coat, And I'm just a drunk comedian, so we both know how this ends.
Jeffrat: @Ted Hebert please read up on infectious disease. The two current theories on the black death vector are both devoid of rats. The primary theory at this point is an entirety bacterial infection that spread through the air, so called tubercular plague, and that's basses on the belief that the black death was in fact Y.pestis. The leading competing theory centers around an entirely different infectious agent that has yet to be properly identified and centers around the insufficient virulence of Y.pestis.
Ted Hebert: @Jeffrat you can't be serious. Rodents were 100% responsible for ye olde black death.
Jeffrat: @Ted Hebert rats spread the plague the same way vaccines cause autism.
Ted Hebert: So, i just take this plague monster and rub it all over the thing that sits on my pillow as soon as i leave the room? Then i'll be happy?
 Mad Collager: Rattweiler
Hosebag: Benji Mouse and Frankie Mouse at it again.
